“Sorry it is going to be a bit of a trek,” said Destiny as they piled onto the coach.

The team list had been announced a couple of days before and Kimberley, as well as Pia, had made the squad, if not the starting eleven. But she was very pleased with herself. Devon and Kara sat next to each other, although Devon threw her a wink and a smile. Brooke and Cameron sat at the back along with Destiny and couple of the other girls leaving Kimberley with a double seat to herself. She had gotten on with all the other girls on the team so wasn’t worried who she sat next to. But it was Pia who made a beeline for her and sat down without saying a word. Kimberley quickly realized that this journey was going to be made in pretty much total silence as any attempts to start a conversation were rebuffed and then ended when Pia announced she was going to go to sleep.

After three hours, she was glad to be able to stretch her long legs. UCA was an impressive campus, while it lacked historical ambiance it made up for it with a bustling atmosphere and state-of-the-art buildings. As they made their way to the playing fields, Kimberley felt good about her choice of college. While this place was nice – it lacked that certain something.

“Do you think we will play?” asked Pia. This was almost the only words she had said since they left.

“Hmm… hope so, but probably not. We can just chill out and relax on the bench.”

“You’re probably right.”

“But we will get our chance soon, I’m sure.”

Even though it was unlikely she would get any match time, Kimberley felt a pang of nerves as the team got changed. She wished she had the confidence and calmness of the other girls who were chatting away happily without a single trace of anxiety. She noticed Devon throw a glance her way as she took off her bra. Her heart missed a beat and she realized she kinda liked the attention of this super cool, super beautiful girl.
